For over a decade, Brian reviewed invention disclosures by surgeons having product ideas they believed would help their patients. He reviewed these disclosures in light of the prior art and helped provide intellectual property assessments that company leaders used to choose the best projects to pursue. Often times these disclosures were very rough sketches and the patent prior art was easy to identify. Frequently the disclosures failed to create the enthusiasm needed to convince company leaders to pursue the project.

If the prior art indicates that the device is not novel, the surgeon will know this information up front and save the surgeon an unfruitful investment of money and time. More importantly, a showing of the device’s novelty in light of the prior art creates enthusiasm for those interested in licensing or selling the device. Add working models and a patent pending on the device and the likelihood of interest in the device skyrockets.
