Pilates Allegro

Joseph Pilates created the original Pilates reformer in the early 1900’s primarily to train highly skilled dancers. In the early 1990’s, the benefits of the Pilates method was recognized and by 2005 it is estimated that over 14 million people practiced the technique.

The original reformer was made of wood and not much smaller or lighter than a couch and intended to move just about as often. Brian was approached by Balanced Body to manage the project and design a collapsible, stack-able, and otherwise mobile commercial grade Pilates reformer. Since this had not been done before, there was not an abundance of prior patent art to consider.

In just under 4 months, the first Pilates Allegro prototype was completed. After 13 years, the Pilates Allegro continues to be sold today around the world and affectionately used in homes, rehab clinics, fitness facilities, private studios, and by professional sports teams and celebrities. The Allegro design has been awarded numerous patents.
